Temperature: High 25 degrees<\/p>\n<p>I rested well after the long day yesterday and I was in no hurry to leave Chalons &#8211; I had a place to stay tonight and around 21 kilometers to walk.<\/p>\n<p>I took the opportunity to explore the town, first visiting the Eglise Notre -Dame en Vaux &#8211; a historic monument built around 1200 AD &#8211; it is also a World Heritage site<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-530\" src=\"http:\/\/pilgrimsway.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/IMG_20180619_104425-1494x2656-1152x2048.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"1422\" srcset=\"http:\/\/pilgrimsway.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/IMG_20180619_104425-1494x2656-1152x2048.jpg 1152w, http:\/\/pilgrimsway.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/IMG_20180619_104425-1494x2656-281x500.jpg 281w, http:\/\/pilgrimsway.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/IMG_20180619_104425-1494x2656-768x1365.jpg 768w, http:\/\/pilgrimsway.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/IMG_20180619_104425-1494x2656.jpg 1494w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The World Heritage listing is in accordance with its relationship to the pilgrimage to St.Jacques de Compostela. I am still on the route where the Compostela and Via Francigena pilgrim paths join and the question I am frequently asked &#8221; Compostella ?&#8221; suggests the route to Santiago is better known than that to Rome.<\/p>\n<p>From there I went to the Cathedrale Saint Etienne, another cathedral undergoing extensive work to the exterior. Originally consecrated in 1147.
